Sand

In the greenside bunker our goal is to hit the sand first, not the ball.  The sand will carry the ball out of the bunker. For the green side bunker:

· Do not touch the sand with the club before the stroke, two stroke penalty.
· Aim your feet to the left of your target.

· Ball position; good lie, left foot. Bad lie, right foot.
· Do not dig your feet in too deep, just enough to assume a stable stance.
· Choke down on the club relative to the depth of your stance.

· Open the clubface and then take your grip.
· Take a pretty full swing.
· Strike the sand about an inch behind the ball.
· Finish the swing completely, do not stop the club in the sand.

A fairway bunker shot is simply a full swing with these exceptions:

· Don't dig your feet in too much.
· Place the ball in the center of your stance.
· Aim left, the ball will fly a little to the right.
· Choke down on the club about an inch.
· The swing is mostly with the shoulders, don't move the legs a lot.
· Strike the ball first, let's say that again, strike the ball first!
