The short game is the most important part of golf. Any gorilla can smash the ball down the fairway, but it takes true skill to put the ball in the hole. At least half of your practice time should be devoted to the short game. The best part of practicing the short game is that you can do it around the house (with your parents permission, I broke a few windows in my younger day, I highly recommend that you not make the same mistake). Putting can be done on a smooth carpet. Chipping and putting can be done in the backyard. You'll probably have to wait to go to the course to work on your sand game (unless you live on the beach).
